The College

Welcome Letter

Dear Student,

Welcome to Shanghai Acupuncture College Ireland and congratulations on your choice to join a growing number of healers who understand that good health is rooted in a balance of the mind, body and spirit. I believe there is no more rewarding profession than the one you are about to enter and invite you to begin your journey here with us.

At this core, this college is about bringing together excellent wisdom with modern medicine-3,000 year old Chinese expertise in the heart of Dublin City. We are deeply committed to the growth of the profession in the mainstream of Irish medicine. Our faculty are committed to academic excellence and set high standards. They are determined to provide you with an adult education that prepares you for today’s modern health care environment.

When I came to Ireland in 1983, as a doctor of acupuncture, the profession was little known. Now, with the great changes in Irish society and the opening up of China a unique opportunity has presented itself-to offer Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) training in Dublin using identical methods and procedures that students learn in China.

That is what distinguishes our programs from those at other schools. All of our lecturers are native Chinese and are flown in directly from China, the origin of acupuncture. Our college chairman Prof Chen Han Pin is the most distinguished figure in the area of acupuncture in the whole of China. He is a board member of the World Acupuncture Association and the chief editor of the English Acupuncture Journal. Our college director of studies is the director of Shanghai TCM Teaching Hospital, and is documentary host for a top radio station in Shanghai.

Students who crave quality instruction are promised a lively exchange of ideas with their professors. The college will also arrange for students to travel and work with their professors in clinical practice in Shanghai following the program. Students credentials are recognised internationally: we are affiliated with Shanghai TCM Teaching Hospital, the 6th Teaching Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the top research body in China, the international Training Hospital.

Our objective is to create an educational environment where you learn in an intimate supportive environment where dedication to academic excellence is the essence. To that end, we offer limited spaces to keep our staff student ratios to a minimum. We also offer our courses a part-time of full-time basis to be flexible to applicant’s needs.

Our goal is to produce graduates that are excellent practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine that have skill to foresee the development and progression of disease and the knowledge to act to prevent it and the ability to strengthen the patients natural healing process.

I look forward to being your partner over the next two years as we work together to discover the deepest truths about our nature, our patients, and the fundamentals of TCM that create extraordinary health!

With love and respect,

Dr Su Pin Chen
